Have you ever wondered how someone decides to become a boudoir photographer? Or maybe you’ve wondered what might motivate someone to make a living taking "sexy photos" of women?
So first, we’re going to tell you a little story! It’s the story that started it all.
Once upon a time, (haha) there was an amazing client of ours named Leah. We had discussed doing a photoshoot in a creek that we had recently discovered! We had an idea in our heads of a goddess laying on the rocks and floating in the creek wearing a super long, flowy gown.
Come the day of the photoshoot, Leah realized she didn’t really have anything to wear that fit our vision. She brought some long, flowy cover ups and a swimsuit. My first thought was, “this is so not what I had in my head, but alright, let’s do this thing.”
So we got down to the creek and we started taking photos of her. BOOM. Goddess status from the very start. Not what we had envisioned, but quite possibly even better!

After we left the session, I had so many thoughts floating around in my head. Just a few of them were “OMG that was amazing,” “Was my husband really just taking pictures of this gorgeous girl’s butt?!” and “I’ve never felt like this after a photoshoot before,” on top of about a million other things!
We truly had never experienced anything like this shoot. We felt more creative then we had ever felt shooting family sessions and portraits. We could not WAIT to rush home and view all of the photos we had taken! I think that was the fastest I’d ever walked inside from our car and shoved that SD card into my computer!
Long story short, we got to talking about how that photoshoot went. How that photoshoot made us FEEL. We realized that this is where we wanted to be. This is what made both our hearts sing! We decided to start testing the waters more and more with this “boudoir genre.”
So what made us stick with it? Does the amazement that we felt from that very first boudoir shoot still come over us every time we do a boudoir session? The short answer is YES ABSOLUTELY!!! But I’ll go ahead and give you the long answer, too.
That session was amazing and it truly opened the doors to this new adventure. But what REALLY made us stick with this genre actually wasn’t 100% because of the feelings WE got from shooting these kinds of pictures. It was the feeling our CLIENTS got when having these pictures done!
I can’t tell you how many girls we’ve worked with who, when we first started showing them pictures on the back of our cameras at the beginning of their shoot, squealed in excitement or even almost started crying with joy! And dude, those are UNEDITED. When we first start the session, most of the girls we work with are totally lacking confidence (can you believe it from the resulting pictures?!), have never done anything like this before and are a bucket of nerves. THEN WE START TAKING PICTURES. And BOOM--a light switch flips! We literally get to watch this gorgeous woman realize that she truly is a goddess, and then the fun begins!
Boudoir is NOT about having sexy photos taken.
Boudoir is NOT about looking sexy in front of strangers (us).
Boudoir is NOT about girls wanting to be slutty.
Boudoir is NOT any of the million things you’ve probably heard from multiple Karens in your life. (Sorry Karen! Just an expression!)
Boudoir IS about empowering women.
Boudoir IS about you seeing yourself in a new light.
Boudoir IS about falling in love with yourself and your body (even in lingerie!)
Boudoir IS about making each and EVERY woman that comes to us see the goddess inside themselves.

When we see someone go from a 1 or 2 on the confidence scale to a solid 10 in under an hour, it is just an incredible feeling and an amazing gift we want to give to every single woman on this planet. It doesn’t matter how big or small you are. It doesn’t matter how old you are or the color of your skin.
